Objective: To determine that applicants possess the skills required to cope with distractions while maintaining the degree of aircraft control required for safe flight. To help the student become better at dealing with distractions of all types by introducing them in a controlled manner.

  • Most stall/spin accidents occurred when pilot’s attention was diverted from primary task of flying aircraft (NTSB)
    • 60% stall/spin accidents occurred during takeoff/landing and 20% were preceded by engine failure

Completion Standards: The first objective of this lesson is complete when the instructor determines, through the introduction of distractions over the course of many flights, that the student does possess the skills required to cope with distractions. The second objective is never fully complete.
